Like the Sunken Cannon, Rum once again rests by the sea in Kororāreka.

Sunken Cannon ages at Matauwhi Wharf. Located at the entrance to Russell, the old “Hell Hole” and battleground are in close walking distance.

For many years the wharf at Matauwhi has produced honey for the tourism market. During the border closures of 2020 – 2022 the demand for honey stopped and it remained in barrels rather than being packaged for sale.

When reflecting on the sight of honey barrels aging in New Zealand’s original home of Rum, the next step seemed so logical.
